October 17, 2024

● The innovative solution is now competing in the international WorldStar Packaging Award, representing Spain.

● The plastic pallet designed by Cartonplast Ibérica allows for a reduction in carbon footprint of up to 20% and a reduction in water footprint of up to 47% compared to traditional wooden pallets.

Cartonplast Ibérica, a pioneering company in the management of reusable transport packaging, announces the receipt of the Liderpack Award for Best Logistics and Distribution Packaging with its innovative recycled and reusable plastic pallet (Iberian Model).

This innovative pallet, designed for the transportation of bottles and glass jars, is made with 50% recycled polypropylene. Its lightweight design and high durability make it more efficient than traditional wooden pallets. Furthermore, it allows logistics sector players to improve their environmental impact, as it not only has a longer life cycle—up to 150 uses—but is also 100% recyclable. Cartonplast’s plastic pallets, already used under a pooling model by various companies across Europe, also feature an RFID system that enhances traceability.

Cartonplast’s solution was recognized among the 146 entries submitted to the 2024 edition of the competition, organized by the Spanish Packaging Association of Graphispack together with the Hispack fair at Fira de Barcelona. Thanks to this award, the company, along with the other 24 winning companies, now has the opportunity to represent Spain in the prestigious WorldStar for Packaging Awards, where packaging solutions from over 35 countries compete.

“Circularity in industrial packaging for transporting empty glass containers, from the manufacturer to the packager, has been part of our DNA since the beginning. With our PLP plastic interlayers, we already promote reuse, recycling, repair, reduction, and zero waste. Now, by adding the plastic pallet to the process, we help companies in the sector advance even further in sustainability and operations,” explains José María Carrasco, CEO of Cartonplast Ibérica.

The award-winning and sustainable plastic pallet

The development of the plastic pallet by Cartonplast has taken into account the specific technical and dimensional requirements of the glass sector. This innovative solution is not only a clean and efficient material that eliminates the need for phytosanitary treatments, but also stands out for eliminating staples, adhesives, or other potentially contaminating external materials, thanks to its base sheet fixing system.

Cartonplast’s business model, based on the shared POOLING service, enables this new product designed for the supply chain to reduce the carbon footprint by up to 20% and the water footprint by up to 47%, aligning it with the new Spanish packaging regulations as well as the European Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation.
