CPL Ibérica Wins the Worldstar Global Packaging Award 2025

Madrid, January 16, 2025

  • Its glass bottle plastic pallet has been awarded in the Materials and Packaging Components category.
  • The pallet, designed by Cartonplast Ibérica, reduces carbon footprint by up to 20% and water footprint by up to 47% compared to traditional wooden pallets.

Cartonplast Ibérica, a pioneer in the management of reusable transport packaging, has won the WorldStar Global Packaging Award in the Materials and Packaging Components category for its recycable and reusable plastic pallet.

The pallet, designed by Cartonplast Ibérica, is used for transporting glass bottles and jars and is made with up to 70% recycled material, making it lighter (18 kg compared to the 25 kg average of the ANIFE wooden pallet) and more durable (it does not deform or change regardless of the load) than wooden pallets.

The jury particularly valued its environmental efficiency, with a much longer lifespan —up to 150 uses— and its complete recyclability, which allows logistics sector companies incorporating it into their supply chains to improve their overall environmental impact.

These plastic pallets are also more efficient in warehouses. In addition to incorporating an RFID system that enhances traceability, Cartonplast’s pooling model prevents packaging systems from taking up space while ensuring their circularity. Thanks to its eco-design and this management model, the product enables a reduction of up to 20% in carbon footprint and up to 47% in water footprint across the logistics chain.

“We are very proud that ideas like this, designed to improve the global sustainability of the supply chain and thus move towards a better planet for everyone, are internationally recognized with a prestigious award like the WorldStar for Packaging. At Cartonplast, we have been working for several years on the concept of the plastic pallet as an additional service to our reusable layer pads, and seeing its usefulness and sector trust confirmed is the real reward,” says José María Carrasco, CEO of Cartonplast Ibérica.

International Ceremony in May
The WorldStar Awards, organized by the World Packaging Organization since 1970, are the most important accolade in the packaging sector and have accompanied companies in innovation, design, and technology since then. With a firm belief that packaging is essential for a better life in current societies, the organization has evolved over the years to address new challenges and trends, such as sustainability.

The 2025 awards are the result of deliberations by a panel of 51 international judges representing the 50 member countries of the WPO. Cartonplast’s solution entered this international competition after winning the Liderpack Awards from the Spanish Packaging Association. A total of 260 awards were given across various categories, and in addition to Cartonplast, nine other Spanish projects were recognized.

The WorldStar Awards ceremony will take place on May 30 in Milan (Italy) during the IPACK-IMA international trade fair. José María Carrasco (CEO of Cartonplast Ibérica) and Pablo García (Production Manager at Cartonplast Ibérica) will attend on behalf of Cartonplast Ibérica.
